What You’ll Experience:
As a Junior Member, you’ll be introduced to many aspects of the fire service while working alongside experienced firefighters and officers.
Train with Mentors
Learning is at the heart of our Junior Member Program. Junior members train alongside experienced firefighters and officers who are committed to providing mentorship, encouragement, and hands-on learning in a safe and supportive environment.
Life long memories
As a Franklin Fire Company Junior Member, you’ll also have the opportunity to attend the Franklin County Junior Firefighter Academy, held each summer at the Franklin County Public Safety Training Center with approved permission. This academy allows junior firefighters from departments around the county to expand their skills, build confidence, and train with experienced instructors in a boot camp setting while forming friendships and memories!
Community Service
Gain experience towards community service for the area you call home through fundraising, community events, and public relations/fire education. This gives these young adults a chance to develope socialization skills for years to come.
Education First Mentality
At Franklin Fire Company, we believe being a student comes before being a firefighter. Junior members are expected to maintain good academic standing, and school responsibilities always take priority over department activities. Participation is scheduled around the academic calendar and Pennsylvania youth firefighter regulations to help members succeed both in the classroom and at the firehouse.
Be at least 14 years of age
Obtain parent or guardian consent
Maintain good academic standing

Being a Junior Member is more than attending trainings—it’s a commitment to personal growth, responsibility, and representing Franklin Fire Company with pride.
Junior members are expected to:
- Respect fellow members, officers, and advisors
- Care for department equipment and facilities
- Participate in trainings, meetings, and department events when able
- Demonstrate professionalism both inside and outside the firehouse
- Be positive role models within their school and community
- Can My Child Respond to Emergencies?
- What If School Gets Hard and I Need a Break?
- What if My Grades Are Not Good?
- Can My Child Stay the Night?
- What Happens When I Turn 18?
Junior members may participate only in activities permitted by Pennsylvania law and department policy. Safety is always our highest priority.
We expect it to. Education is our priority for every Junior Member. Participation is designed around school obligations and the academic calendar, and members are expected to maintain good academic standing. If your child needs to focus on school or other extra curriculars we UNDERSTAND and will help in anyway we can!
If your grades are not good we ask that you work with your teachers or a tutor to get your grades up. Our Fire Chief may ask that you take some time away to focus on school and once your grades are back up you may return to activities at the firehouse.
Once a Jr. Member is considered a “riding member” they are able to bunk in under different rules about when they must be in bed. That can be found in their handbook.
Many of our members began as Junior Members. When eligible (30 days before your 18th birthday), juniors have the opportunity to “apply” for Senior Membership and be voted on by membership. If found favorable they will continue their journey as a Senior Member.
Still Unsure About It?
Please reach out to our recruitment team at JOIN@STA4.COM to set up a time to discuss the program and how this could benefit your child!
