Who Are Our Volunteers?

There is no “typical” Franklin Fire Company volunteer. Our members are students, parents, tradespeople, healthcare professionals, business owners, first responders, retirees, and everything in between. Some respond to emergency calls, while others support fundraising, administration, community events, facility operations, and behind-the-scenes work that keeps our department running. No matter your background, experience, or skill set, there’s a place for you to make a meaningful impact and serve the community you call home.

What Makes Us Different From the Rest?

What sets Franklin Fire Company apart isn’t just the apparatus we operate or the calls we answer—it’s the people behind them. For more than a century, we’ve built a culture rooted in experience, mentorship, and tradition. Our membership includes seasoned volunteer and career firefighters, dedicated community leaders, and multi-generational families who have proudly served side by side for decades. Combined with exceptional facilities, a commitment to training, and a team that genuinely invests in one another’s success, you’ll find more than a place to volunteer—you’ll find a place to belong. Hear directly from our members in the video to learn what makes Franklin Fire Company feel like home.

There is no single path to serving at the Franklin Fire Company. Explore the membership opportunities below to discover where your talents can make the greatest impact.

Operational Firefighter/Driver

Serve on the front lines of emergency response.

Operational Firefighters and Drivers respond to a wide variety of emergency incidents, including structure fires, vehicle accidents, rescue calls, hazardous materials incidents, and public service requests. Working as part of a highly trained team, members help protect lives, property, and the community while ensuring our apparatus and equipment are ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

Fire Police

Help keep emergency scenes safe and organized.

Fire Police play a critical role in supporting emergency operations by managing traffic, securing incident scenes, assisting with public safety, and helping ensure firefighters can work safely and efficiently. This is a sworn in position as well. They also provide traffic control for community events, parades, funerals, and other public gatherings throughout the year at the request of local municipalities.

Junior Member

Start your journey in the fire service.

The Junior Member Program provides young individuals with the opportunity to learn about the fire service, develop valuable life skills, and serve their community in a safe, supportive environment. Working alongside experienced mentors, junior members gain hands-on experience, participate in training, and become an important part of the Franklin Fire Company team while preparing for future membership.
