“Greene 31 to Franklin!”

At 10:30am, Crews had just sat down after returning from a crash on the interstate 81 (a vehicle struck a parked vehicle on the berm) when Greene 31 at the Mickey Inn Rd compost lot radioed an “industrial machine on fire”.
Sta.4 w/ 15, both engines & the squad arrived finding the tri-axel Vermeer wood shredder well involved with fire. Command requested Tanker 13 for extra water. Crews were able to control the fire in about 15 mins and stop it from involving any piles of mulch. The squad crew was also able to contain fuel & oil run off before it affected any nearby water ways.
The cause is believed to be the result of a faulty fuel pump and/or hydraulic line failure.

Thanks to Curtis, Denny & Shawn for photos!

🔥House Fire in Chambersburg w/ FF MAYDAY🔥

At 10:14am, Squad 41 & Truck 42 responded to the 300blk of E King St in Chambersburg for a house fire. Co.1 & Sta4 arrived during dispatch finding a 2 story single family wood frame with smoke showing. One occupant was removed from a window via a portable ground ladder by Co.1 initial crews. Squad 41 entered finding fire on 1st & 2nd floor. While conducting their search, 41 reported hoarding conditions and multiple holes in the floor on all levels. Initially thought to be a house under renovations, this was found to be not true, it was the everyday condition of the structure. Searches proved negative.
Truck 42 gained position in the rear and was able to ladder the roof. With no vertical ventilation needed, crews went inside and assisted with opening up.
During the search operation, a member of Squad 41 fell through a 2nd floor hole into the 1st floor and onto another fireman. Capt 1, on the 2nd floor, immediately radioed a MAYDAY for the members involved. The MAYDAY was just as quick cancelled as the members were able to quickly exit at a nearby door. An accountability check was completed and members resumed firefighting efforts. All members were evaluated, uninjured and went back to work.
