Breakdown of the day!

  • 9:11-Truck 42 responded to Mercersburg for an “inside odor of gas”. The truck was placed in service before arriving on scene.
  • 10:00-We posted about the day being a “Red Flag” day. Meaning the environmental conditions were prime for rapid fire spread. This is due to winds, low relative humidity and dry fallen foliage.
  • 11:43-Sta4 responded to Greene Twp at Scotland Rd and Sycamore Grove Rd for a field fire. Crews quickly arrived on scene to find 1 acre of a cut corn field already involved with fire and spreading rapidly. DC-47 Olson Established the command and immediately requested a Brush Truck Task Force Alarm. This alert automatically starts multiple other agencies, including additional brush trucks, engines and tankers. This fire grew to almost 3-4 acres. It is out at this time.
  • 2:36-Squad 41, Engine 43 and Special Unit 44 responded to Corls Rd in Greene Twp for a Mountain Fire. The Squad was due to Structures being threatened by fire. Command 7(Fayetteville) arrived to approximately 10 acres of free burning mountain terrain. Countless resources from multiple counties worked this fire including the Dept of Forestry helicopters doing water drops. Crews were in the mountain throughout the night and at the time of this posting (11am Saturday), some area agencies are still working on the mountain. It is contained and no longer spreading. It is believed to have burned a couple hundred acres.
  • 3:19-Leafmore Rd @ Warm Spring Rd for a large column of smoke. Asst 49 Himes was in the area, located the column but could not find access to the area. After about 10 mins, a secure access point was found where he located approximately 4 acres of free burning forest terrain. He called for multiple resources from around Franklin County. Crews worked for almost 2 hours containing the fire. It is out at this time.
  • 4:36-N Franklin St @ W Commerce Street in Hamilton Twp for an auto accident w/ 1 trapped. Sta4 and area mutual aide agencies found a School Bus vs. a passenger car w/ the driver trapped. Subsequently the driver was able to crawl to the passenger side and out of the vehicle.
